article writingdec. 17th, 2008 @ 04:14 pm
so, i've recently written a few articles. i think they're pretty cool.

at hubpages i wrote: The Christmas Gift Guide for Horror Fans. it's full of fun toys and books and calendars and ipod/iphone skins. i even found horror-related plush slippers. and there are christmas-themed items like decapitated/limbless gingerbread men cookie cutters and a nightmare before christmas christmas countdown calendar. check it out. digg it, stumbelupon it, mixx it, whatever. make it popular *^_^*

i wrote two articles on squidoo. the first one is Improve Your Sex Life by Role-Playing Sexual Fantasies. i include some cool costume photos in the article.

the second article i wrote on squidoo is Surprise Horror Fans with Gifts They'll Love this Christmas. i wrote this one before the article on hubpages, but the hubpages one is better. the horror christmas gift guide on squidoo lists mostly DVDs and video games. i went through the most recent horror movie releases and picked out the best ones. so many horror christmas gift guides list the classics, but fans already own those. listing recent releases makes more sense.

i also have a big boobs blog: Milk Junky: Fun with Breasts. it actually has a lot of good posts about breast health and women's health. give it some technorati love *^_^*

i can't believe it's almost christmas. i don't feel ready =/

blotting linens

so i went to the mall today. the body shop's tea tree blotting sheets aren't terrible. i could see where they soaked up oil. they didn't have any kind of scent to them, which makes me doubt that there's enough tea tree oil to have an impact on skin. it's $10 for 2 packs of 65 sheets, so that's not bad. but they're smaller than the boscia ones, so i'm not sure they're a better deal.

i stopped by sephora. they didn't have my rose blotting sheets. i tried the lavender in store, but i couldn't smell anything so i bought a pack of the green tea ones to test out.

boscia's green tea blotting sheets definitely smell like green tea. it's much harder to see where these soak up oil versus the rose ones which are very obvious. i like that obviousness. and i miss that rose scent. dammit, i want my rose ones! stupid sephora.

i've emailed boscia to ask if any stores sell the rose blotting linens. buying them online isn't very convenient. and i want to ask for them for xmas, but my relatives won't shop online, so if it's not available in a physical store it's pointless to ask for it.

still, i got some blotting linens to tide me over and, since i went to sephora, i got a free sample. wee! i chose the hylexin eye cream for dark circles. i've always had dark circles—not super serious, but noticeable enough—under my eyes. i'm not gonna buy $95 eye cream, but it'll be fun to try out.

soft and shiny hair

so i used coconut oil in my hair last night. my hair feels so smooth and silky. i should really do this more often.

my hair is still a little frizzy, so i'll probably use coconut oil again tonight. i also think it might be time for me to trim my hair. it's always amazing what a big difference a little trim can make.

personal xmasnov. 19th, 2008 @ 07:23 pm
so i sent my parents and my relatives xmas lists. i asked for some dvds and books. that's all i could think of. and actually thegrifter thought of most of the dvds.

i just got off the phone with my parents. mom told me my relatives would like a few ideas for gifts that are more "personal." ohmigod i have no idea what to ask for.

i usually ask for bath and body works stuff, but over the past few years i've built up this huge collection of awesome-smelling lotion and shower gel (vanilla bean noel, woot!) that i don't use because i'm having this all-out war with acne. so i've been using prescription skin stuff and buying tea tree oil body wash. no fun, not sexy, but these red dots have my full attention.

bath and body works stopped carrying my other favorite, super-necessary always-need-with-me product: the boscia oil-absorbing sheets (i always got the rose ones). sephora carries them. i'm debating asking for those. i always think, 'no, i should buy stuff at sephora because i'm in their program so i get free samples.' but this is bs because i never go.

on the phone my mom mentioned that the body shop has tea tree blotting sheets. at the time i said i was interested, but i looked them up and they got really bad reviews. i could try the lavender chamomile blotting sheets. the lavender ones are $10 for two packs of 65 sheets; the tea tree ones may be the same or they may be $10 for 1 pack of 65, i can't tell.

i should go to the mall tomorrow and check sephora, make sure they carry my rose sheets, and try out the green tea ones. i can also stop at the body shop to check their prices and see what "vanilla spice" smells like.

since i haven't restocked on the blotting sheets in a long time, i've been saving what little i have left. i usually use kleenex-type tissues to blot my face... definitely not as good.

maybe i'll ask for some organix hair products. i have trouble finding some of them; my relatives might have better luck. i've been using the vanilla silk shampoo and conditioner and the coconut milk anti-breakage serum. so yummy.

i'd like to try the vanilla silk silk serum, but i've never seen it. i'd also like to try the coconut milk leave in nourishing milk and the coconut milk instant repair treatment. i haven't bought them because 1) they're expensive, 2) i have other hair products i need to finish off, and 3) i have coconut oil which i use as a leave-in treatment.

the third reason is probably bs, because i never use the coconut oil i have. i put it on my hair and scalp overnight and it's awesome, but i just never feel like doing it. maybe i'll do it tonight.

ooooh my hair is super soft right now *^_^*

iScreamnov. 13th, 2008 @ 09:16 pm
so the other day i caught the fourth episode of vh1's scream queens. it's funny that the commercials tried to sell saw v as the last in the series, but there's this tv show that's finding a girl to be in saw vi. someone didn't think that through.

so anyway, this is the first episode i've seen (if you want you can view the episodes online). the girls audition to be in a trailer for the pretend movie "reform school zombie squad." the script includes a seduce-the-warden scene and a girl-on-girl hot tub make out session (see the audition outtakes for some funny moments).

most of the girls are tragically bad at trying to sell the line "review this record, warden... and by record, i mean vagina." do these girls not understand what they're reading? have they never seen a porno or a b-movie or hell, jessica rabbit?

jessica rabbit being damn sexy

instead of being sexy, they're doing hand motions at their crotches like michael jackson or something. what the hell? these girls are supposed to be actresses; they can't even pretend to try to seduce someone? the whole point is to get out of trouble by making the warden want to fuck you, and the moves those girls used were equal to a cold shower.

moving on... when each girl does her audition, the director asks if there's anything she doesn't want to do, and many of them say they don't want to kiss another girl. but lina (definitely more beauty than brains) keeps it to herself because she doesn't want to make an issue of something that isn't yet an issue.

i'm not even in the entertainment industry and i knew that was a big screw up. once it becomes an issue, then it's too late. tell the director before he casts the roles. before. this is exactly the kind of thing that delays productions and costs big money.

i knew right away this was a train wreck in the making, and i was right. lina got chosen for one of the lesbian roles and waited until the last minute to tell the director she didn't want to do it. she got axed from the show for that.

girl-on-girl action from scream queens

it's too bad, because the blonde that replaces lina in the lesbian scene isn't as hot. even so, two girls making out should be awesome. except in this case. the director's instructions are to really go at it with "tongues wrapping around each other" and stuff, and the girls do this:

animated girl-on-girl action from scream queens

i thought the purpose of a lesbian scene was to turn guys on. was i wrong? or am i missing something? because man, to me, that just ain't sexy.

these girls really make me wonder. i'm not an actress so i don't necessarily know what to do, but i definitely know what not to do. like, don't say you'll do something if you won't actually do it. and don't turn a make out session into the special olympics.

i mean, the title "reform school zombie squad" (reminiscent of the girls-in-prison sexploitation films, woohoo!) sounds like a boy's wet dream, like zombie strippers or strippers vs zombies. for stuff like this, the performances aren't supposed to be taken seriously, but that means having fun with it not acting short bus.

and i could sure as hell make out with a girl and drive the guys wild doing it. god, it's been so long since i last did anything with a chick. right now it sounds really, really fun to make out with a girl in a bikini in a hot tub while being filmed by three guys. i'd prefer a hot girl with big tits (hopefully she doesn't mind some t&a gropage). hmmmm, maybe i'm meant to be a softcore pornstar.

horror movies

i've only seen saw and saw ii. thegrifter's heard nothing good about iii - v. anyone have any input? i'd look up some reviews, but the movies have been out so long i'm sure i'd read spoilers, and spoilers are no fun.

asian horror movies

i have recently watched a few asian horror movies: the heirloom, memento mori, marebito, and reincarnation. one-sentence reviews:
  • the heirloom is about a family that uses black magic involving dead foetuses to gain power, and it has some creepy moments.

  • memento mori is a nice story about two lesbians who keep a really cool diary; it's a good movie, but it's not horror.

  • marebito is weird and for the most part it really dragged; it's basically from a first-person point of view and i just didn't like the main character.

  • reincarnation feels like a story about an actress for most of the movie, but the twist at the end is pretty cool and makes the film more interesting.

indecision 2008nov. 5th, 2008 @ 01:07 pm
yes, i watched comedy central's indecision 2008. colbert and stewart are funny.

yes, this is a historic event. in the matter of race relations, this is a huge step forward. america's first african-american president. our country has really progressed, and in that way i'm proud to be an american.

personally, i was hoping palmer would be our first african-american president. almost, man. almost.

yes, i am concerned about the economy. but i don't think obama is the answer. i don't agree with him on taxes or universal health care. i worry about all the money he wants to spend.

no, i don't like hillary clinton, but even i think she got a raw deal. hooters requires more experience for a restaurant manager than americans require for their president. obama's fancy speeches are worth more than experience, it seems, and i find that disconcerting.

no, i didn't agree with mccain on everything. palin is inexperienced, a little foolish, and way too conservative. she is pro-life to a scary extreme. i admit, i feel a little relieved that a pro-choice president was elected.

yes, i'm happy that the campaign ads are over. i'm happy that the severely biased news coverage is over. i am so tired of obama's ridiculous spending and mccain's poorly run campaign. i am tired of hearing the same things over and over again.

yes, i hate the word 'maverick.' i hate the phrase 'joe the plumber.' i hate the vague promise of 'change' and the mindless chant 'yes we can.' i hate 'hockey moms,' 'pit bulls,' and 'lipstick.'

yes, i know that these are just my opinions, as flawed as anyone else's. and i'm okay with that.

really, thank god this election is over. i was sick of the campaigning and the news reports weeks ago. now, it's time to look ahead to the future...

a little bit of everythingoct. 30th, 2008 @ 10:20 pm
snack food

i miss utz crab chips. those are like one of the best snack foods ever. i've been eating flamin' hot cheetos like they're addictive or something. for some reason i always crave them around midnight or so, and i go through a bag in one or two days almost every day for months and months now... i'm trying to stop eating late at night, though, so i'm gonna try to stop buying them. it's been two days. we'll see how it goes.

back to the crab chips. i miss them. utz chips are like an east coast thing so i can't get them here in texas, so of course i really really want them right now. i haven't eaten them in years. i used to eat them all the time in maryland, but i think i got hooked on flamin' hot cheetos when those came out and so the utz crab chips ended up on the sideline. but out of nowhere the other day i started thinking about them and now i can't stop. i hate snack food cravings i can't fulfill. -_-

bad ads

commercial breaks get more and more irritating. the new geico commercials with the cavemen are so stupid. i can't count the number of times i've heard angelina jolie cry "i want my son back!" every time a wendy's commercial ends with "it's better than fast food, it's wendy's," all i can think is how wendy's is fast food and that's a stupid tag line (i actually forget the entire commercial and all my attention focuses on that one thing, so wendy's, your new slogan is backfiring... it's time to hire a new ad agency). i'm tired of the songs getting stuck in my head. progressive insurance ads are pretty bad, too. get rid of flo. i can't stand to hear "or a big, tricked out name tag" one more time. not one more time. it is not funny.

but maybe the worst of all are the new burger king ads. those two guys singing about mushrooms and swiss are so gay. the commercials are nothing but irritating. i hated them the first time i saw them, and i hate them more and more every time they're played. burger king: you need a new ad campaign. now. the new commercials were a very, very bad idea. they are about as hair-pullingly annoying as you can get. admit it, destroy them, and move on. please.

oh, and listen up guitar hero: go to hell. you're not rock band. no one is going to buy a whole new set of instruments for your stupid rip-off. all you're doing is pissing off the fans of your game. if that was your goal all along, job well done.

good ads

i do however love the happy california cow commercials. those are cute. the oovoo commercial is also cute, but i've seen it way too many times at this point; they need to either show it less or make more ads so it's not the same one over and over.

the role model commercials continue to be funny. "no, 'cause you did it is why i think you did it." i'm sure the movie is sub-par, but the clips in the ads are quite amusing.

movies, tv shows, and books

that new movie twilight looks godawful. i love buffy and angel, but otherwise... i'm just getting so tired of vampires. so so tired. make it stop. MAKE IT STOP!! between movies and tv series about vampires and all the new book series about supernatural women (necromancers, detectives, freakin' werecoyotes who repair cars WTF??) with vampires and lycanthropes, i am just so ready for this fad to be over. i haven't read the newest anita blake novels, the harlequin and blood noir, cause thegrifter and i don't want to pay more than a couple dollars for either of the books. obsidian butterfly was the last great anita blake book.

okay, now i mention good books

thegrifter's now reading a bunch of larry niven books. i've read man-kzin wars 1 and 2. i mean to read more of niven's books, but i just haven't yet. my dad's a huge, huge larry niven fan, so that's how this interest started. the stories in man-kzin wars were awesome. even the really long story that kind of dragged at times in my opinion, when i got to the end... the ending was so smile-inducing and just perfect that i love that story, too. hell, how can you not want to read a book summed up by: "...they learned the hard way that the reason humanity had decided to study war no more was that humans were so very, very good at it."

well, the newest south park is playing again. craig is so awesome. "this is why no one at school likes you..." lmao

my brain part IIaug. 15th, 2008 @ 10:36 pm
i retook a quiz i took back in may 2005 (see the lj entry here). i wanted to see if my results would be different. well, the test has changed... the scoring is totally different... but it seems that before i was mostly visual and verbal. mathematical came in third. and yes, i know it's just a silly quiz and it really doesn't mean much.

oh, and i've never heard of the comic he mentions. i may check it out. later. not right now, though, 'cause i have other stuff to attend to.

Your result for The 4-Variable IQ Test...

5% interpersonal, 20% visual, 30% verbal and 45% mathematical!
Brother-from-another-mother! Like mine, your highest scoring intelligence is Mathematical. You thrive on logic, numbers, things representing numbers, and sets of things that are sets of other things, with numbers nowhere in sight. You probably like the online comic called XKCD, and if you don't, check it out.

You probably knew you'd score "Mathematical" as you took the test, and mathy types are usually super-high scorers on this axis, and low on the others. Why? Because you (we) yearn for math.

Anyway, your specific scores follow. On any axis, a score above 25% means you use that kind of thinking more than average, and a score below 25% means you use it less. It says nothing about cognitive skills, just your interest.

Your brain is roughly:

5% Interpersonal
20% Visual
30% Verbal
45% Mathematical

Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Still, I offer the following advice to the world:
1. Don't date someone if your interpersonal percentages differ by more than 20%.
2. Don't be friends with someone if your verbal percentages differ by more than 25%.
3. Don't have sex with someone if your math scores differ by over 40%. You might kill them.

Your Score: Illusionist

You scored 6 Combat, 4 Social, 5 Strategy and 6 Magic!

Direct combat, Loner, Subtle, Magic. You're the Illusionist. You're a practitioner of magic that fools opponents. Conjuring things in front of their eyes, confusing them, you have them befuddled with the pretty lights, mental smoke and mirrors before you stick a knife in their chest. Yeah, you can handle yourself with a blade and it makes you all the more deadly. Bringing people along would just be dangerous to your gameplan; you keep to yourself.
